Territorial Acknowledgement

Lethbridge County is located in Treaty 7 territory, traditional land of the Siksikai-tsitapi (Blackfoot) Confederacy, which includes the Siksika, Kainai, and Pikanii Nations. The Tsuut’ina and Stoney Nakoda Nations also became part of the Blackfoot Confederacy and signed Treaty 7 as a sacred act with promises to share the bounty of mother earth. The natural environment of this land includes grasses, flowers, shrubs, cacti, and cottonwood trees – all ancestors teaching us that if we are faithful to who we are and we share, there is room for all. This land is also homeland to the Métis Nation of Alberta, District 1, Foothills.
